_____________ Requirements:
Windows 95b, 98, NT4 workstation, ME, 2000 or XP. The system is not tested on Windows NT 4 server and we do not recommend installing on this platform. We recommend Windows 2000 or higher for optimal functionality.
Servicepack 2 for Windows 2000 and the latest servicepack for Windows NT 4 is recommended.
Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 or later is required. (IE 5 included on CD in folder: "\tools\MS Internet Explorer 5.01\")
Microsoft Mediaplayer is required to view some help-videos. Versions of this software can be found on the CD in "\tools\MS MediaPlayer\"
At least a Pentium II processor runnning at 300 MHz is recommended. More than 64MB memory. Recommended: 128MB (Cosmetic imaging module requires at least 128MB memory for optimal performance.)
Diskspace requirements depends on what you select in the installation process. A typical installation with 2 plugins requires around 150MB.
Each X-ray-plugin or other plugins may have special requirements. Most X-ray-sensor systems work on Windows 98, some also work on Windows 2000 and XP. See separate txt-files under \Help for more detailed hardware-related instructions.
The Video plugin requires a Video capture card with Video for Windows or WDM drivers. If you set it up to use VideoDX.exe it will use DirectShow.
_______________________________________________________ Installation instructions for stand-alone workstations:
Insert the CD and select your language in the first dialog. Select DentalEye - 'Install' to start installation. (Alternatively you run the file setup.exe on the CD directly.) When prompted select the options for 'DentalEye' and the hardware-plugins you want to use. You can select the option for installing a demo database on your local C: drive. If you do, it will be selected as your startup database.
To create an empty database: 1. Start DentalEye. Go into System\Create Empty Database. Type a database filename of your choice. (eg: C:\MYDB\db.mdb) Select or type a path to the folder where you want to store your images (or accept the default). Check 'Add default templates' to copy templates to the new database. (otherwise you will have to make them yourself before capturing images.) You can also select to install the demo-data by checking 'Copy demo-database from CD'. The demo-database includes patients, images, templates and toothgroups. Click OK.
2. Go into System/Preferences and select the tab 'License'. Enter your license-code. Check the modules you want to use.
3. Restart DentalEye... Start using the software.
Manual in english can be found in the \help\ folder on the CD. (Manual can also be selected during the setup.)
______________________________________________________________________________________ Installation of DentalEye 3.0 in a network environment and creating an empty database:
1. Make sure all computers have a common driveletter mapped with read and write rights. (ie F:) This drive can point to any filesystem that supports long filnames. (Windows 95,98,ME,NT,2000, Novell Netware, Linux ...)
2. Create a folder in the drive where you want to store your images. (ie F:\MYDB\images). Since the path to the image files is stored in the database, the path must be the same on all machines running DentalEye. If you wish to run DentalEye on the server you must use 'subst' to map the same image path as on the other machines (ie server: d:\data\MYDB\images, client: p:\MYDB\images where p:\ is mapped to \\server\data, then run subst p: d:\data in autoexec.bat).
3. Start DentalEye 3 on one client. Go into System\Create Empty Database. Type a database filename og your choice. (eg: F:\MYDB\db.mdb) Select or type the path to the image store folder you just created. Check 'Add default templates' to copy templates to the new database. (otherwise you will have to make them yourself before capturing images.) You can also select to install the demo-data by checking 'Copy demo-database from CD'. The demo-database includes patients, images, templates and toothgroups. Click OK. Go into System/Preferences and select the tab 'License'. Enter your license-code and check the modules you want to use.
6. On all workstations go into System\Database and make sure it points to the common database-file. Go into System/Preferences and select the tab 'License'. Check the modules you want to use.
7. Start using DentalEye.
_____________ Known issues:
- On some ATI graphics cards the toolbars may appear blank. Update the drivers for the card to fix this.
- The german manual PDF can be copied from the Help folder of the CD. There is no option for it during the setup routine.
___________________________________________________ Frequently asked questions and their answers (FAQ):
Q: Can DentalEye use MSDE 2.0 (2000) and MS SQL 2000 for it's database. A: Yes. MSDE 2 is now included on CD. For upgrading existing MSDE 1.0 databases use MSDE.EXE on the CD. If you run MS SQL Server 7 (non MSDE) please upgrade to MS SQL Server 2000 and not MSDE 2. The MSDE 2 setup on the CD installs the 'default instance'. If you want to run in an other instance you must copy the MSDE2 folder to harddisk and edit the setup.ini file. Call support for details
